Llangrannog & Ynys Lochtyn Circular
Distance: 3 miles / 5 km
Time: 1.5 to 2 hours
Grade: Moderate
Route type: Circular from Llangrannog
Map: OS Explorer 198, New Quay & Aberporth
This shorter loop suits families and those who want the views from Ynys Lochtyn without a full coastal day. Starting from Llangrannog beach, follow the Wales Coast Path northeast as it climbs above Cilborth Beach, which is reachable at low tide via steps cut into the cliffs.
The path continues onto the Lochtyn headland, now owned by the National Trust, with wide views along the Ceredigion coast and across Cardigan Bay. The defensive rampart of Pendinas Lochtyn hillfort is still clearly visible where it was built across the only landward approach some 2,000 years ago.
The return route loops back past the Urdd Centre, Wales’s national youth outdoor centre, where facilities include a ski slope, zip wire and climbing wall, before dropping back into the village. Many walkers finish with food or a drink overlooking the beach.
