Four days with children

Published 29 October 2026

For one family in a Cabin, or two or three families sharing the whole place.

Day 1. Arrive from 4pm and settle in. The beach has sand, pebbles and a shallow pool where the Afon Ffynnon Ddewi runs into the sea, which is good for small children.

Day 2. Stay at Cwmtydu. Use the kayaks, bodyboards, surfboard and life jackets from the store. Keep an eye out for seals, which often come close to the shore. Wash the sand off in the outdoor showers and put wet kit in the washing machine and drying room.

Day 3. Drive to New Quay (4 miles) for a dolphin-watching boat trip. Cardigan Bay has the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe. Then go on to Aberaeron (12 miles) for crabbing off the harbour wall and an ice cream.

Day 4. Book a morning foraging on the beach or in the woods with Jade Mellor of Wild Pickings, then cook what you’ve found. If the children want something more active, ICY UK runs guided water activities. Ask for Rhydian and say you’re staying at Ty Cwch.

The bedrooms are upstairs, reached by steps, so keep an eye on toddlers.

“Loved the dolphin spotting in Newquay and children loved swimming with a seal in the bay in Cwmtydu.” Dafydd, July 2023

“Brilliant beach for kids: there is a river with shallower water running into the sea, a mixture of pebbles and sand on the beach, and some surf to catch waves on.” Melanie, August 2020
